2019 CarbonCare® Conference cum CarbonCare® Label Award Ceremony - Climate Emergency: Integrating Community and Business Actions

On 10 December 2019, CarbonCare Innolab (CCIL) and Carbon Care Asia (CCA) jointly organised their annual flagship event in the Owner Box, Happy Valley Racecourse. Themed “Climate Emergency: Integrating Community and Business Actions”, the morning session of the Conference included two panel discussions on “Community Response to Climate Emergency” and “Business Response to Climate Emergency?” Local and overseas experts on climate-focused NGO and financial investment were invited to share their observations and experiences, as well as to interact and exchange ideas with representatives of the finance sector, business sector and civil society. Participants were able to gain important insights into the topics discussed.

Graced by the presence of the officiating guest, Hon Kenneth Leung, Legislative Councillor, this year’s CarbonCare^® Label Award Ceremony was held in the afternoon. In his keynote speech entitled “Climate change and business accountability”, Kenneth encouraged Hong Kong to promote green finance tackling climate change problem from the economic sector. This year, a total of 47 organisations received the CarbonCare^® Label, the CarbonCare^® ESG Label and the CarbonCare^® Star Label, showcasing increasing awareness and actions of carbon management and sustainable development among companies and organisations of different sectors.

Ir Albert Lai, Chief Executive Officer of CCA, also announced partnering with Solactive to launch the first Asia Sustainability Bond Index, to address the trust gap and to enable investors to track the performance of Asia-Pacific bonds that can demonstrate high integrity and transparency in environmental and social contributions.

The last session of the event saw three parallel workshops focusing on “Sustainability reporting: how to catch up with rising standards in HK and Singapore”, “Business solutions to Climate Risks: Sectoral policies, TCFD, CRA and beyond” and “Staying ahead in carbon management: science-based targets and internal carbon pricing”. Workshop participants from various backgrounds benefited from deep-dive discussions and the exchange of views and experiences on respective subjects. The full-day event drew around 150 industry practitioners and company representatives.
