Committed to Promoting Carbon Reduction Towards a Net Zero Economy Green NGO CarbonCare InnoLab awarded 54 CarbonCare® Labels
（Hong Kong - 14 December 2021) CarbonCare® Label 2021 awards 54 labels to 38 corporates and organisations for achievements in driving ambition and action for carbon reduction, good practice in ESG reporting and implementation of circular economy. This year, CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL) launched “CarbonCare® Construction Label”, a new label addressed on GHG emissions from construction site operations and the embodied carbon of construction material consumption.
CarbonCare® Label recognises the sustainability efforts of Hong Kong businesses and organisations. Since its launch in late 2011 by CCIL and Carbon Care Asia, over 450 labels have been awarded to listed companies, private companies, government departments, public bodies, social enterprises, NGOs, hotels, commercial venues and mass events.
Outstanding Performers Towards Net Zero Economy
The award ceremony was held on 14 December 2021 at Regal Hongkong Hotel. This year 38 companies and organisations were awarded a total of 54 labels (see Annex) including property management, construction, finance, fashion retail, catering and printing industries. Dr. Lam Ching-choi, SBS, JP, the Non-Official Member of the Executive Council, and the Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Development who officiated the award ceremony, commended the label awardees as the leaders in the industry. He hoped that the awardees can motivate more businesses and organizations to participate in the carbon reduction actions, contributing to the carbon neutrality pledge by 2050.
The effectiveness of corporate carbon management directly affects Hong Kong's progress towards achieving the 2050 carbon neutrality target. Jebsen Group and Tree Limited were awarded the golden "CarbonCare® Champion Label" this year. China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited also received the CarbonCare® Construction Champion Label managing greenhouse gas emissions from the construction process and achieving carbon neutrality. As for the CarbonCare® Circularity Label, Hong Yip Service Company Limited was awarded in recognition of its effective recycling and reuse policy.
Mr. Chong Chan Yau, co-founder and CEO of CarbonCare InnoLab brought the message of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) to awardees at the Award Ceremony that facing the global climate challenges, corporates have a responsibility and need to lead the climate response. He emphasised that a low carbon economy brings opportunities and benefits.
Addition of CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Label and CarbonCare® Construction (Materials) Label
Mr Chong shared that the record high number of awardees reflects a trend of improved receptiveness to making business greener. He revealed that a new label namely CarbonCare Construction (Process) Label and CarbonCare Construction (Materials) Label has been added to the Scheme starting from this year. The new label focuses on GHG emissions from construction site operations and the embodied carbon of construction material consumption, further encouraging and promoting the business pursuing the net zero transition.
