CarbonCare InnoLab Awarded 50 CarbonCare® Labels Acknowledging the Carbon Reduction Achievement towards a Net Zero Economy
CarbonCare® Labels 2022 awards 50 labels to corporates and organisations for achievements in driving ambition and action for carbon reduction, good practice in ESG reporting, implementation of circular economy and encouraging the construction industry to reduce carbon emissions and its overall carbon management strategy. The Label represents the outstanding performance of the corporates or organisation in pursuing sustainable development, and the awardees are well-deserved.
CarbonCare® Label recognises the sustainability efforts of Hong Kong businesses and organisations. Since its launch in 2011, corporates and organisations are encouraged to take action and tackle climate change, reduce their carbon footprint, or achieve carbon neutrality through carbon measurement, carbon reduction and carbon offset. CarbonCare® Labels are awarded annually to organisations that demonstrate excellence in the practice of sustainable development, including CarbonCare® Label / CarbonCare® Champion Label, CarbonCare® ESG Label, CarbonCare® Circularity Label, CarbonCare® Construction Label. Throughout 11 years, around 500 labels have been awarded to listed companies, private companies, government departments, public bodies, social enterprises, NGOs, hotels, commercial venues and mass events.
The award ceremony was held on 14 December 2022 at Regal Hongkong Hotel, gathered the leader of enterprises and institutions celebrate the net zero and sustainable development. Officiating guest, Miss Wong Shuk Han, Diane, JP, Under Secretary for the Environment and Ecology Bureau congratulated the label awardees being the climate action leaders in the industry. With the raise of awareness of climate crisis, companies put more attention on potential climate risks in their investment and decision-making processes. Corporates introduced climate mitigation measures and increase the governance transparency, contributing to the net zero transition and sustainable development in Hong Kong. A total of 50 CarbonCare® Labels were awarded to corporates and organisations from various industries this year, and the results are encouraging. CarbonCare InnoLab’s Board Director Ir. Lee Chi Ming gratified that all applicants achieved the third or fourth level of CarbonCare® ESG Label, reflecting the continuous improvement in ESG disclosure. As the Secretary-General of UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) pointed out that the implementation of carbon reduction plans must be detailed, specific, accountable and transparent; he also emphasised that business should hold "a zero-tolerance attitude towards net-zero greenwashing (Greenwashing)". The CarbonCare® ESG Label’s criteria will constantly improve and reflect the latest international trends, the performance of regulatory agencies and respond to social expectations.
CarbonCare InnoLab’s Programme Advisor Mr. Ringo Mak said the COP 27 confirmed the responsibility of cities in addressing climate change. As a developed city, Hong Kong must reduce carbon emissions substantially in the short term in accordance with international standards. The business community is at the heart of the fight against climate change and they can foster innovation and solutions to prevent future climate disasters and ensure climate justice transition. The involvement of the business community is essential to a successful climate action.
