CCIL COP29 Networking Event: Gathered HK Participant Voices!

On 25 October 2024, CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL) organised a Networking Event that brought together organisations, groups, and youth delegates preparing for COP29, providing a platform for mutual recognition, knowledge sharing, and networking. Participants included representatives from CCIL, The Conservancy Association, Business Environment Council, Hong Kong Observatory, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, The University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Plant Technology Alliance, Friends of the Earth Hong Kong, and Radio Television Hong Kong.

The event started with the welcoming speech of Mr. Chong Chan Yau, Co-founder and CEO of CCIL. Drawing upon his extensive experience in COP and international conferences, he provided valuable advice to first-time COP attendees, helping them gain a deeper understanding of COP and its significance. Mr. Chong emphasised the importance of youth participation in international conferences, encouraging them to not only learn negotiation skills and interact with international representatives but also to return home with experiences and insights to share with different sectors in Hong Kong to encourage active youth involvement and contribution to the development of climate policies. Following Mr. Chong’s address, Ms. Ivy Leung, the Executive Director of CCIL, shared her past work experiences in non-governmental organisations and charity trusts, highlighting the profound impact of climate change on communities. She emphasised the need for everyone to connect with different communities and learn together how to tackle this global challenge.

During the networking session, all participants got to know each other, exchanged ideas, and shared their plans for COP29. As the COP29 Networking Event concluded, participants continued their discussion online, and we look forward to their experiences and insights after COP29!
