Local Conference of Youth

Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) is an event initiated by YOUNGO since 2014, with an aim to empower youth through networking and knowledge sharing. Apart from the annual Conference of Youth (COY), LCOY desires to connect the annual climate negotiations to local climate action and turn words into action, especially youth actions. LCOY offers a platform for youth to get involved in climate change, to connect and empower each other to be global, national and local climate leaders, creative problem solvers, advocates and networkers through knowledge-sharing and networking. LCOY will build a network in which youth can connect across borders and explore ways to collaborate and advocate for more effective climate commitments and actions at regional and global levels. Founded in 2009, it is a youth-led non-hierarchical consensus-based platform. It serves as both the official conduit for youth participation in the United Nations climate talks and as a global network of youth and youth-focused organizations working on climate change. YOUNGO runs various working groups focusing each on specific aspects of climate change within the climate negotiations and events to ensure that perspectives of young and future generations are taken into account in the multilateral decision-making processes. Moreover, YOUNGO members observe and take part in climate negotiations, and report on the implications of climate negotiations’ outcomes. Click here for the story of YOUNGO.
