A virtual SolarVisit was held under The Jockey Club Solarcare Programme. By the virtual tour at Outward Bound Hong Kong Tai Mong Tsai Base, participants got the opportunity to know more about the solar energy system along seaside through their monitors.
On 23 September, with the application of online conferencing and Facebook Live, Mr. Ken Tai, project engineer of CarbonCare InnoLab led more than 40 participants to “fly over” Outward Bound Hong Kong, with the perspective of drone to explore the solar system. Speaker first introduced the principle of solar energy system, then with the drone tour to explore all solar panels built on 5 selected structures including the Office Tower, the Training Block and Staff Blocks, speaker illustrated the difficulties and challenges throughout this installation. After that, speaker brought all participants to view the related equipment around the meter area, and explained fully the functions of those equipment for a thorough understanding of the technical supports behind system. Representative from Outward Bound Hong Kong was interviewed by the speaker along the beautiful summer seaside, shared their initiatives joining this programme, as well as their plans in promoting renewable energies and environmental education. The virtual tour ended in a fruitful sharing of the relationship between climate change and solar energy and everyone understood that it is essential in mitigating climate change by replacing coal-fired power with solar energy system.
Participants raised questions on different areas during the Q&A session including the criteria joining this programme, cost-effectiveness of solar system and potential impacts to solar panels by adverse weather. Speaker took all the questions and responded in details with additional elaboration of elements to be considered when engineers first design and plan the whole solar system installation, says the space required, sunshine conditions and technical supports to be involved. Upon the comprehensive discussion among all, participants got it clearly that renewable energy can absolutely yield a more sustainable future. Let’s work hands in hands together to mitigate climate change for the planet in the long run.
CarbonCare InnoLab continuously holds different SolarVisits, targeting to build the path for the community to enter the world of sustainable energy.
