Jockey Club SolarCare Programme Launching Ceremony
Date: June 18, 2019

In response to the challenges of climate change, enhancing the use of renewable energy in the energy mix has already become a global trend. According to the Paris Watch Report, renewable energy in Hong Kong only accounts for 1-2% of the total energy generation, which is lagging far behind many cites nearby such as Seoul and Taichung. The chance for Hong Kong to meet its 2030 carbon emissions reduction target is very slim.

CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL) will launch the “Jockey Club SolarCare Programme” funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, CarbonCare InnoLab, with a view to promote the use of renewable energy in Hong Kong as well as to develop a community service platform. This programme is an active response to the Government’s recent FiT policy. Its mission is to accelerate the application of solar energy within the local community to increase the use of renewal energy and reduce carbon emissions. At the same time, this programme will serve to connect green groups, NGOs, government departments, power companies, renewable energy experts and the Hong Kong public at large. It is hoped that this can help Hong Kong catch up with the global level of renewable energy development and together we can build a Zero Carbon Hong Kong.
